Hokusai described himself as “the man mad about drawing”. His huge output included more than fifty woodblock prints of flowers and (or) birds which were published mostly in the early 1800s. The format of Hokusai’s prints is diverse but the exaggerated size of the bird’s eyes and beak is a characteristic feature which makes his work easy to recognize.
